I didn’t even think of it till lately, but when I became a Christian I suddenly started walking around in khaki pants and button up shirts. Its like I conformed to some self imposed unwritten dress code. I’m not saying that theres anything wrong with Khaki pants or button up shirts. But What was I thinking? I don’t even like khaki pants (unless they are cordoroy). I’m not real big on button up shirts either. (Although, I did find a really cool one in a dumpster in Santa Fe) Whats next? Should i take up golfing? May I should go out and buy a pair of loafers?
I’m sure I’m not the only one who became a Christian and quickly went about the business of changing externals. I think alot of us have some preconceived notions of what a Christian looks like. We have a neighbor who told my wife that it was a sin that she had a tongue ring. According to our neighbor any body piercings (other than ear rings) are a sin. I showed her where Abraham’s servant gave Rebekah a gold nose ring. (Gen. 24:22). She wasn’t convinced.
Our preconceived notions go beyond just fashion. they can include how we “Do Church” and a lot of other things. Any Thoughts?
